我们相信，艺术成长与人格成长密不可分。学生在一次次真实的艺术体验中，逐渐培养自信、韧性、领导力、沟通能力与同理心，也在理解自身文化的同时，学会欣赏不同文化，成为能够跨越世代、连接社区、促进文化交流的艺术实践者。

Beyond Performance, Toward Purpose

At M+ Creative Arts Studio, we believe that the arts are not simply subjects to be learned, but meaningful ways of understanding ourselves, connecting with others, and engaging with the world.

While technical excellence remains an essential part of our teaching, we believe the true value of artistic education lies in nurturing compassionate hearts, curious minds, confident voices, and creative spirits. Every lesson, performance, workshop, and community project is designed to help students discover not only what they can create, but also who they can become.

We encourage our students to step beyond the classroom and the concert stage into museums, galleries, community centres, schools, theatres, and public spaces, where music becomes a living language that brings people together. Through performances, interdisciplinary collaborations, cultural exchanges, community service, and creative projects, students experience how the arts can inspire dialogue, strengthen communities, preserve cultural heritage, and foster understanding across generations and cultures.

We believe that artistic growth is inseparable from personal growth. By listening deeply, collaborating generously, expressing authentically, and serving others through the arts, students develop confidence, resilience, leadership, empathy, and a lifelong appreciation for beauty and humanity.

Whether exploring the natural landscapes of Canada through music, celebrating cultural traditions, presenting interdisciplinary performances in galleries, or sharing music in support of local charitable initiatives, every experience becomes part of a larger educational journey—one that encourages students to become thoughtful artists, responsible citizens, cultural ambassadors, and compassionate human beings.

Echoes of the Bay of Fundy

An Immersive Concert Experience

How far can music travel from a single piano?

Echoes of Fundy Bay is more than a concert. It is an artistic journey through listening, imagination, collaboration, and cross-cultural expression. Beginning with the piano, we invite students to discover how music can meet poetry, nature, visual imagery, and diverse cultural traditions—and how, within these encounters, they can begin to find their own artistic voices.

The program moves freely between classical and contemporary music, from Mozart sonatas and works by Ravel to Chopin nocturnes and waltzes, alongside contemporary piano music from Japan and Korea. The piano also moves beyond its traditional role as a solo instrument: it enters into dialogue with the cello in Sicilienne and The Swan, joins the flute in The Earth, and interacts with voice and ensemble in works such as Solveig’s Song and Jasmine Flower.

Poetry from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, together with nature imagery and live soundscapes, expands the concert beyond the boundaries of a conventional recital. Tides, wind, birdsong, poetry, images, and live music flow into one another. Students are encouraged not simply to “play a piece,” but to listen more deeply, shape emotion, understand artistic context, and explore their own ways of expression.

The concert brings together artists from diverse Asian cultural backgrounds and across Atlantic Canada. Young performers share the stage with professional musicians, learning through collaboration and attentive listening while discovering the wider possibilities that emerge when different art forms, generations, and cultures meet.

Presented during Asian Heritage Month in Canada, Echoes of Fundy Bay attracted media attention from CBC, People’s Daily, and Phoenix Media for its distinctive artistic vision and cultural significance. Yet for us, its most meaningful achievement lies in what students experience for themselves: music is more than technique or performance. It can become a way of connecting with nature, culture, community, and the wider world.

从一架钢琴出发，音乐可以抵达多远？

《听见芬迪湾》不仅是一场音乐会，更是一次关于聆听、想象、合作与跨文化表达的艺术旅程。我们从钢琴出发，引导学生去发现音乐如何与诗歌、自然、影像以及不同的文化传统相遇，并在这些相遇之中，逐渐找到属于自己的艺术声音。

音乐会的曲目自由穿行于古典与当代之间：从莫扎特奏鸣曲、拉威尔的作品，到肖邦的夜曲与圆舞曲，再到富有时代气息的日韩当代钢琴音乐。钢琴也不再只是传统意义上的独奏乐器——它与大提琴共同演绎《西西里舞曲》和《天鹅》，与长笛合作呈现《The Earth》，并在《索尔维格之歌》《茉莉花》等作品中，与歌唱及乐队彼此呼应。

来自亚洲、欧洲与美洲的诗歌，以及自然影像与现场声景，也融入整场音乐会。潮汐、风声、鸟鸣、诗歌、影像与舞台上的音乐彼此交织，让音乐会超越传统独奏会的边界。学生所学习的不再只是“弹好一首作品”，而是更深入地聆听声音、理解作品的艺术语境、塑造情感，并探索属于自己的表达方式。

音乐会汇聚了来自亚洲不同文化背景以及加拿大海洋省份的艺术家。年轻演奏者与专业音乐人同台，在合作中学习聆听，在彼此交流中成长，也在跨艺术、跨世代、跨文化的碰撞中，看见音乐更加广阔的可能。

作为加拿大亚裔文化月期间呈现的艺术项目，《听见芬迪湾》因其独特的艺术理念与文化意义，受到 CBC、《人民日报》及凤凰媒体等媒体的关注与报道。

然而对我们而言，它更珍贵的意义仍然在于学生亲身经历和感受到的这一点：

音乐不仅是一门技巧，也不仅属于舞台。它可以成为连接自然、文化、社区与更广阔世界的一种方式。

The Arts of Becoming

The Arts of Becoming is a youth arts, leadership, and well-being initiative that creates meaningful spaces for young people to grow through creativity, expression, collaboration, and community engagement.

Over the years, the initiative has presented more than 20 themed salons and workshops, exploring a wide range of topics and experiences. Some sessions focus on music and arts appreciation, while others provide opportunities for young people to perform, share their work, and learn from one another. The program also encourages artistic dialogue within families, bringing young people and family members together through music and creative activities. Cross-disciplinary collaborations introduce participants to different art forms and encourage more open, imaginative ways of expression.

Beyond artistic development, the initiative has expanded into youth leadership, event planning, communication, and community engagement, with workshops and talks designed to help young people develop confidence, initiative, teamwork, and a stronger sense of social responsibility.

The 2025 New Year Concert for Charity grew directly from this initiative. Young participants helped bring a community concert to life while raising funds for a local Community Kitchen. More than a performance, the event gave immigrant youth an opportunity to contribute to the community they now call home—using their creativity not only to express themselves, but also to serve others, build relationships, and develop a deeper sense of belonging.

At its heart, The Arts of Becoming sees arts education as more than learning artistic skills. It is a process of becoming—becoming more expressive, more confident, more connected to others, and more engaged with the community.

“成长的艺术”

是一项融合青少年艺术、领导力与身心福祉的成长计划，通过创造力、艺术表达、合作与社区参与，为年轻人创造一个富有意义的成长空间。

多年来，该项目已开展20余期不同主题的艺术沙龙与工作坊，内容涵盖丰富多样的艺术体验。其中既有专门围绕音乐与艺术欣赏展开的主题活动，也有以演奏、展示与交流为核心的实践活动，让年轻人在舞台与分享中彼此学习。项目还特别鼓励家庭成员之间通过艺术展开对话，让青少年与父母及家人通过音乐和创意活动建立新的交流方式。同时，通过与不同艺术门类的跨界合作，参与者得以接触更多元的艺术形式，探索更加开放、自由而富有想象力的表达方式。

在艺术学习之外，项目也逐渐拓展至青少年领导力、活动策划、沟通协作以及社区参与等领域。通过专题工作坊与讲座，帮助年轻人培养自信、主动性、团队合作能力，并逐步建立更强的社会责任感。

2025年新年慈善音乐会正是在这一系列活动的基础上发展而来。青少年参与者共同推动一场社区音乐会从构想到舞台呈现，并通过演出为当地社区食物厨房筹集善款。这不仅仅是一场演出，更为移民青少年提供了一个真正参与和回馈所在社区的机会——让他们运用自己的创造力，不仅表达自我，也服务他人、建立人与人之间的连接，并在参与中形成更深的社区归属感。

“成长的艺术”所关注的，从来不只是艺术技能的学习。艺术教育本身也是一个不断“成为”的过程——成为一个更善于表达、更自信、更能与他人建立连接，也更愿意参与和服务社区的人。

Blossoming Tunes — A Journey Through Chinese Piano Music

Blossoming Tunes is part of our ongoing commitment to cultural diversity in music and arts education. Presented at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, the concert celebrates the richness of Chinese piano and instrumental music while creating opportunities for dialogue between Chinese musical traditions and Canada’s multicultural community.

For us, music education extends beyond the traditional Western classical repertoire. Folk, traditional, and culturally rooted music has always been an essential part of arts learning for Asian and immigrant students. We encourage young musicians not only to develop strong performance skills, but also to discover the music of their own cultural heritage and to feel confident bringing that heritage onto the wider Canadian stage.

This philosophy extends beyond our own concerts. Each year, we encourage students to perform Chinese repertoire at local professionally adjudicated music festivals, allowing culturally diverse music to become part of the broader musical landscape. Our students have achieved outstanding results through these experiences, including First Place in the World Music category at the Fredericton Music Festival.

Blossoming Tunes was also designed as an inclusive community platform. Participation was opened to piano students throughout the community rather than being limited to students from our own studio. Young musicians from different backgrounds were invited to register, perform together, and experience Chinese music through both performance and exchange.

The concert also brought together professional and emerging artists, including Professor Roger Lord from Université de Moncton, alongside young musicians and community performers. Over approximately 90 minutes, the program presented piano and instrumental works by Chinese composers and works inspired by Chinese musical traditions, including the beloved violin concerto The Butterfly Lovers, as well as Liuyang River, An Evening Gathering, Dance of the Water Grass, and other works.

Through concerts such as Blossoming Tunes, we hope students come to understand that learning music is not only about mastering a repertoire. It is also about discovering where music comes from, what cultural memories it carries, and how those traditions can become part of a contemporary Canadian cultural conversation.

《呦呦鹿鸣——中国钢琴音乐之旅》

《呦呦鹿鸣》是我们长期推动音乐与艺术教育文化多样性理念的一部分。音乐会在夏洛特街艺术中心举行，通过集中呈现丰富多彩的中国钢琴与器乐作品，在展现中国音乐魅力的同时，也为中国音乐传统与加拿大多元文化社区之间创造交流与对话的机会。

对我们而言，音乐教育并不局限于传统的西方古典音乐体系。民族、民间以及植根于不同文化传统的音乐，始终是亚裔及移民青少年艺术学习中极为珍贵的一部分。我们希望年轻的音乐学习者不仅能够建立扎实的演奏能力，也能够主动发现和理解属于自身文化传统的音乐，并有信心将自己的文化带到更广阔的加拿大舞台上。

这样的理念并不仅仅体现在我们自己举办的音乐会中。每年，我们都会鼓励学生选择中国音乐作品参加当地具有专业评审机制的音乐节，让不同文化背景的音乐真正进入更广泛的音乐教育与舞台体系。学生们也在这样的经历中取得了非常出色的成绩，其中包括在弗雷德里克顿音乐节世界音乐组获得第一名。

《呦呦鹿鸣》同时也是一个面向社区开放的艺术平台。音乐会并不局限于我们自己的学生，而是向整个社区学习钢琴的青少年开放报名。来自不同背景的年轻音乐学习者都可以参与其中，在共同演奏、聆听与交流中认识和体验中国音乐。

这场音乐会还汇聚了专业艺术家与青年音乐人，包括蒙克顿大学的Roger Lord教授，以及多位青年演奏者和社区音乐人。在大约90分钟的演出中，观众欣赏到了由中国作曲家创作以及深受中国音乐传统启发的钢琴与器乐作品，其中包括广受喜爱的小提琴协奏曲《梁山伯与祝英台》，以及《浏阳河》《晚会》《水草舞》等作品。

通过《呦呦鹿鸣》这样的音乐会，我们希望学生逐渐认识到，学习音乐并不仅仅意味着掌握一首又一首作品。它同样意味着去理解音乐从何而来，理解音乐所承载的文化记忆，并思考这些传统如何在今天成为加拿大多元文化对话的一部分。

Music in Art Spaces

Cross-Disciplinary Artistic Expression

Presented in collaboration with museums and art galleries, these concerts invite students to explore music in dialogue with painting, photography, literature, film, and contemporary visual arts. By experiencing music within inspiring artistic environments, students are encouraged to move beyond conventional ideas of performance, develop their own artistic voices, and discover more open, imaginative, and interdisciplinary forms of creative expression.

A particularly meaningful part of this series has been our collaboration with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, one of Canada’s distinguished art institutions, with a remarkable collection and a unique place in the cultural landscape of Atlantic Canada. We have been honoured to be invited to present performances at the Gallery in May over consecutive years, when spring brings a special sense of renewal and creativity to both the city and the arts community.

These programs bring together instrumental performance, singing, poetry and literary recitation, and other forms of artistic expression, allowing young performers to experience what happens when music enters into conversation with visual art and the physical space surrounding it.

For students, performing in a gallery is much more than simply moving a concert from one venue to another. A theatre, concert hall, gallery, museum, or other cultural space creates a different relationship between the performer, the artwork, the audience, and the environment. Learning to recognize and respond to these differences helps students understand that artistic expression is shaped not only by what we perform, but also by where, how, and in what context we choose to share it.

The experience can also transform the way audiences encounter art. Music heard among paintings, photography, sculpture, and other works of visual art can invite new associations and emotions; at the same time, the surrounding artworks may be experienced differently when accompanied by live music, voice, and poetry. The artistic space becomes part of the performance itself.

Through these experiences, we hope young artists learn to see beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines—to understand music, visual art, literature, space, and audience as interconnected parts of a larger creative experience.

艺术空间中的音乐 - 在达利的平行空间中歌唱

通过与博物馆和美术馆合作，我们将音乐带入不同的艺术空间，引导学生探索音乐与绘画、摄影、文学、电影及当代视觉艺术之间的对话。在这些充满艺术启发的环境中，学生不再局限于传统意义上的舞台演奏，而是开始寻找属于自己的艺术声音，并尝试更加开放、富有想象力和跨艺术门类的创造与表达。

这一系列活动中尤其珍贵的经历，是我们与加拿大重要艺术机构 Beaverbrook Art Gallery 的合作。我们很荣幸连续多年受邀，在春暖花开的五月走进美术馆进行艺术表演，让音乐与视觉艺术在同一个空间中相遇。

这些活动不仅包括器乐演奏，也融入了歌唱、诗歌与文学诵读，以及其他不同形式的艺术表达。年轻的表演者由此能够亲身体验：当音乐进入美术馆，当声音与绘画、影像以及周围的艺术空间发生联系时，艺术会产生怎样不同的可能。

对学生而言，在美术馆演出绝不仅仅是把音乐会从一个场地搬到另一个场地。剧院、音乐厅、美术馆、博物馆以及不同的文化空间，会形成完全不同的表演者、艺术作品、观众与环境之间的关系。理解并感受这些差异，可以帮助学生逐渐认识到：艺术表达不仅取决于“我们表达什么”，也取决于“我们在哪里表达、如何表达，以及在怎样的文化语境中表达”。

这样的体验同样会改变观众理解艺术的方式。当音乐在绘画、摄影、雕塑及其他视觉作品之间响起时，人们可能产生新的联想与情感；而当现场音乐、歌声与诗歌进入空间，原本熟悉的视觉作品也可能被重新观看和理解。

在这一刻，艺术空间本身，也成为了作品和表演的一部分。

我们希望通过这样的经历，让年轻的艺术学习者逐渐跨越单一艺术门类的边界，理解音乐、视觉艺术、文学、空间与观众之间彼此连接的关系，并由此发现更加广阔的艺术世界。
